Dr. Altman is Sol C. Chaikin Professor of National Health Policy at The Florence Heller Graduate School for Social Policy, Brandeis University. In 1997, he was appointed by President Clinton to the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Tufts-New England Medical Center.

Dr. Bohmer is a guest fellow of the Estes Park Institute. Richard M.J. Bohmer is a physician and the MBA Class of 1973 Senior Lecturer of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, in the Technology and Operations (TOM) unit. He teaches a second year course on health care operations management, "Managing Medicine," which discusses the design, management and improvement of the processes by which patients are medically treated. He co-directs the MD-MBA program and teaches a course at Harvard Medical School on medical management. He is faculty chair for the Executive Education program Healthcare Delivery.

Leanne Kaiser Carlson is a futurist who senses what is possible and advises CEOs, boards, providers, philanthropists, and foundations. She is a founder of the Kaiser Institute, a place of exploration and strategy-building for the future. Ms. Kaiser Carlson also is a writer, hospital board member, teacher, and member of the VHA Foundation Board, which funds innovations in health care.

Dr. Kenneth Cohn is a board-certified general surgeon who obtained his M.D. degree from Columbia College of Physicians Medical School. He worked as a consultant at Heath Advances, assisting 6 firms to commercialize new products. Since joining the Cambridge Management Group, he has led change-management initiatives for physicians at affiliated hospitals within the Yale, New Haven, Banner Colorado, Cortage Santa Barbara, and Sutter Sacramento Health Systems. Dr. Cohn remains clinically active, covering surgical practices in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Physician Development Program

Dr. Harmon, a Florida-licensed psychologist, is co-director of the Physicians Development Program, as well as voluntary assistant professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He specializes in occupational and corporate psychology, including health care-related fitness for work evaluations, employee morale assessments, executive coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution. In addition, Dr. Harmon is the founder of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award program of the Dade County Psychological Association.

He has over 20 years experience in the financial industry dealing with complex solutions to compensation related issues.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Hoerl has performed organizational development work and made presentations in the areas of strategic planning, physician/hospital relations, conflict resolution, organizational assessment, team-building, and medical group development. Each year, he works with approximately 55 medical groups and 45 hospitals. He is known for his facilitation skills and his practical approach. Dr. Hoerl also served as a health care administrator for ten years.

Mr. Horty has been the chair of the Estes Park Institute since 1984.

He also is co-founder of the Kaiser Institute, a postgraduate educational program providing advanced training in integrative medicine, intuition, and philanthropy.

Dr. Kaplan is a Guest Fellow of the Estes Park Institute.  He was named Chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Medical Center in February 2000.  He serves on the Virginia Mason Medical Center Board of Directors, is Chair of the Management Committee, serves on the Board of Governors of Benaroya Research Institute and the Board of the Virginia Mason Foundation.  Dr. Kaplan has practiced Internal Medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center since 1982.  He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and is board-certified in internal medicine.  He is also certified as a Fellow through the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Dr. Kitzhaber is a former emergency physician, legislator, and two-term Governor of Oregon. He is the past president of the Oregon State Senate, where he authored and implemented the groundbreaking Oregon Health Plan. His legislative career was marked by active leadership in public education, community development, environmental stewardship, and a wide variety of health care issues. Dr. Kitzhaber has been President of the Estes Park Institute since January 2003.

Mr. Kopf's experience includes 26 years as a federal law enforcement officer with the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the FBI. Mr. Kopf co-authored and was the director of Operation Restore Trust, a Presidential initiative that set the current standard for health care fraud investigations.

Dr. David Lawrence retired in May 2002 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. He had held both positions since 1992. Dr. Lawrence currently serves on the Boards of Agilent Technologies, Raffles Medical Group of Singapore, McKesson Corporation, and the RAND Health Advisory board, among others. He also serves in advisory roles to the biotechnology industry.

A frequent speaker and author on patient safety, reliability, and quality initiatives, Dr. Lin serves on the National Patient Safety Foundation Annual Conference faculty and as executive director of continuing medical education at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu. She works with organizations and hospitals in their MEC credentialing committee and physical leadership retreats; as well as in external peer review activities, disruptive physician interventions, and integrating patient safety and quality initiatives.

Rob has 25 years of consulting experience working with large and small hospital systems, community teaching hospitals, university medical centers and medical groups across the country. The hallmark of his work is an ability to effectively engage an organization’s leadership and stakeholders around key strategic issues, and to provide frameworks that enable the right strategic decisions to be made and executed. Rob received a B.A. degree from Colgate University and an M.B.A. degree from Rutgers University.

He has worked with more than 100 hospitals and health care groups on marketing, reputation and crisis management, and other communications assignments, and he is a frequent speaker at health care conferences and retreats. He serves on the board of the Volunteers in Medicine Institute. A writer by training, Mr. Rivkin is a former journalist, magazine editor, and advertising and marketing executive. He is the co-author of six business management books, including Idea Wise, a guide to collecting, borrowing and adapting new ideas; Differentiate or Die, on finding and exploiting your unique selling proposition; and Repositioning, on marketing in an era of competition, change and crisis.

Trained at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. YaDeau practiced surgical oncology in St. Paul, MN, where he also served as president and then chairman of the Foundation for Health Care Evaluation. He has served as chief of Bethesda Lutheran Hospital's medical staff, taught at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, and was instrumental in funding and establishing the second hospice in the U.S. His themes reflect the changing imperatives that influence institutions. He is Vice-Chair of Estes Park Institute.
